Description: Droll French comedian Noel-Noel essays the title role in Le Pere Tranquille (The Quiet Daddy). Contrary to expectations, the star isn't a secret father, but in fact the unknown head of a WW2 resistance movement. By playing the fool whenever the Nazis are around and about, Noel-Noel is able to conceal his double life and successfully carry out his various sabotage missions. This deft combination of comedy and melodrama builds to a particularly suspenseful climax. One rainy night, three prostitutes pass the time whilst waiting for clients by recalling the story of one of their former acquaintances. In 1945, Petit Louis works as a handyman in the brothel where he was born and grew up. Love comes his way in the form of Marion, a beautiful young woman who finds work in the brothel. Realising that Marion cannot possibly love a man as plain as him, Petit Louis commits himself to making her happy in other ways. He gets her to enter a singing competition on the radio, which she wins, and then contrives to bring her together with her ideal man. Marion’s happiness is short-lived when it turns out that her lover, Dimitri Josco, is a petty crook who is being pursued by some vindictive gangsters...

Before he dies, a celebrated artist, Jean-Baptiste, asks to be buried in the famous cemetery at Limoges (a town reputed for housing more dead than living), in a distant corner of France. His relatives, he insists, must take the train to attend his funeral. Sure enough, after his death, Jean-Baptiste’s enormous family pour onto a high speed train bound for Limoges. Relatives who have not met for ages, who have never got on well in the past, are forced into close confinement, unleashing a torrent of emotions.

Description: June 1791.
